Door-to-Door Christianity (and why it sucks)

1) D2D Christians are arrogant more often than not. I can't stand that. I'm fairly certain your religion doesn't condone arrogance. It really irks me when I open the door and see one of them. I just know that they're going to question me about what I know about what the Bible says and all that crap. They try to make you feel like an idiot if you don't know it like the back of your hand. THEN, they get on their high horses and look down at you with a sanctimonious sneer saying (basically), "Since you don't know everything the Bible says and since you're not our denomination, you must have a crappy relationship with God!" I just want to slap them. It is my place to determine my relationship with the Lord. It's a personal thing.

2) If you feel you have to spread your faith by trying to force it on others, you obviously don't even have it right within yourself. The general idea is that you should treat people well and live such a pious life that others will be drawn to it through witnessing your good deeds. I'm not saying you shouldn't discuss it, but it shouldn't be forced upon people and it shouldn't be in a condescending tone. Not at all. I don't recall reading in the Bible any part where Jesus made people feel like jerks because they weren't as righteous as He was.

Anyway...just a bit of a rant. I got to talking about this with Matt today (or yesterday...can't remember). I suppose it's kind of hard not to try to force people into something when you know you're only trying to save them and teach them something for their own good. I have to say, though, a lesson is never truly learned unless the student is willing to learn it.

Hi Andie, I just read your comment on my blog regarding your relationship, and I just wanted to say hi. I saw this post, and I will say that though I am a minister, I have never gone door to door. That's not saying that someday I won't, but I pray that if ever I do, I won't be seen as arrogant. Thank you for pointing out how D2D Christians come across. Of course, I only know of a few denominations that do this as a matter of "doctrine" and don't necessarily agree with those that I do know of, anyway. :) You are correct that your faith is a private thing, inasmuch as someone shouldn't be pushy when trying to share the Good News with you. I don't know if you are a believer, or not, but I responded to your comment regardless. I pray blessings over you and your family, and hope you'll stop by often. If I can answer any questions for you, I'll be happy to do so. Remember, Jesus loves you and so do I. (I don't have to know you to love you.) :)
